Saab Owner Faces Bankruptcy Petition
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wir ... n-24943818
The company that lifted Swedish automaker Saab out of bankruptcy is now facing financial difficulties of its own.
On Tuesday a supplier petitioned a Swedish court to declare National Electric Vehicle of Sweden (Nevs) bankrupt.
Labo Test, which supplies test equipment for car parts, said Nevs had failed to pay bills of 150,000 kronor ($22,000) since February.
Nevs spokesman Mikael Ostlund didn't immediately answer a request for comment.
The company, owned by a Hong Kong-based group, bought Saab out of bankruptcy last year after a failed attempt to revive the brand by Spyker Cars of the Netherlands.
Though its plan was to make electric cars, Nevs started off with gasoline-fuelled models to get production going immediately.
SWEDEN: NEVS production staff at home as supplier woes continue
http://www.just-auto.com/news/nevs-prod ... 49057.aspx
National Electric Vehicle Sweden says 250 production employees are at home following further struggles with short-term financing.
Staff only recently returned to the Saab-producing parent after summer holidays, but a petition filed with Swedish authorities from a supplier, today (12 August) has seen many without production work.
"The vacations ended this weekend, so when they came back we informed them [production staff] we still have things to do in the factory," a NEVS spokesman told just-auto from Trollhattan in Western Sweden.
"So everyone comes back every Monday, but during the stop of production they stay at home and wait for new information.
"Those 250 people are being paid - they are at home with wages. The petition to the Court was today and they made a decision to have a negotiation on 8 September. It is the Court here in the area [of] Vanersborg."
In June, NEVS said only some component makers were being paid as it looks to secure future cash injection following contractual issues with a shareholder.
Speculation centred around Mahindra & Mahindra as well as Dongfeng to be potential suitors, while the situation spooked NEVS' three unions into holding a joint meeting in Stockholm to discuss the issue.
NEVS has been in dialogue with "two large OEMS," with the spokesman noting: "The two companies [with which] we are in dialogue are fully aware of our situation. That it takes some time to complete a cooperation is a sign they are very serious.
"[We are] the first to say we are sorry about that [liquid] - situation - we do not have enough liquid cash to fulfil our obligations towards our suppliers."

Mahindra will buy majority stake in Saab owner NEVS, report says
http://europe.autonews.com/article/2014 ... eport-says
NEVS' first Saab 9-3 car leaves the Swedish assembly line in September 2013. Production was halted in May.
STOCKHOLM -- India's Mahindra & Mahindra has agreed to buy a majority stake in National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the investment group that bought the assets of Saab Automobile two years ago, a report said.
NEVS' administrator, Lars Eric Gustafsson, said today in a statement that an Asian carmaker has agreed to purchase a majority stake in NEVS. Neither Gustafsson nor NEVS identified the company.
The website SaabsUnited said NEVS and Mahindra have signed an agreement for Mahindra to step in as majority owner of NEVS. The agreement is being kept secret until it is finalized the website said.
Gustafsson's statement said the Asian carmaker agreed on Nov. 30 to the deal and to finance the company’s operating costs until the agreement is complete early next year.
Gustafsson also said that NEVS is in talks with another Asian manufacturer on a joint venture to develop new vehicles.
NEVS, a Chinese-Japanese investment group led by renewable energy power-plant builder National Modern Energy Holdings, sought protection from its creditors in August after struggling to deliver on a target to produce 120,000 cars a year by 2016. That would have come close to the Saab brand’s 2006 peak annual ouput of 133,000 vehicles.
The potential majority shareholder has offered to provide bridge financing of 5 million euros ($6.2 million) a month to cover operating costs until the agreement is complete, NEVS said. Pending due diligence, the company said the deal should be finished by February.
NEVS was granted permission by a Swedish court on Aug. 29 to carry out a reorganization of the company. It applied today to Vaenersborg District Court to extend the reconstruction period by three months.
NEVS said it had trouble paying its creditors after its shareholder, Qingbo Investment Co., didn’t fulfill a promised investment of 1.15 billion kronor ($155 million).
Saab was previously owned by General Motors Co., which acquired full control in 2000, before selling it in 2010 to Dutch supercar maker Spyker NV, which failed to revive the brand. The auto business split from Saab AB’s aerospace operations in 1990.
Gustafsson's statement said the majority owner will negotiate with Saab AB to use the Saab brand name and badge. Saab AB withdrew permission after NEVS applied for creditor protection. NEVS expects to be able to renegotiate the Saab brand agreement following a solution to its funding troubles.
Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet reported on Aug. 5 that NEVS was in talks with Mahindra & Mahindra and China’s Dongfeng Motor on funding, citing unidentified people with knowledge of the talks.

Turkey develops national car with Saab
http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey ... &nid=89962
Germany orders scandal-hit VW to recall 2.4 mn vehicles
A senior minister has announced Turkey purchased the intellectual property rights to Saab’s 9-3 model, with the goal of using it to develop a Turkish-branded car and advance in the field of extended-range vehicles.
“We bought the Saab 9-3’s intellectual property rights, but not its name,” Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık said in a televised interview on Oct. 15.
“The brand [of the car to be developed] will be a Turkish brand, it will not be Saab. We’ll develop the technology in Turkey,” he added, as quoted by Anadolu Agency.
He said that, once in mass production, a minimum of 85 percent of the parts used for the car will be produced in Turkey.
Saab CEO Mattias Bergman confirmed the company and Turkey have worked together in the country’s national car project in a press meeting in Sweden on Oct. 16.
“We inked a deal on May 28. Our engineering team and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey [TÜBİTAK] work together in developing the design with the contribution of our other partners in Turkey. We have created a couple to prototypes and presented them to Turkish Minister Fikri Işık to be launched in Turkey. We share knowhow in marketing as well as development and production with our Turkish partners. We offer training to Turkish manufacturers and engineers, and work together with them.
We provide production parts and system. We’ll also share our resources in product development. The resources we don’t have are provided by TÜBİTAK. We work together in TÜBİTAK’s engineers in their laboratories,” Bergman said, as quoted by Doğan News Agency.
The news comes two days after he unveiled three prototypes of the first Turkish-made car, which was met with comments by Turkish dailies that the car’s general structure was in fact inspired by Sweden-based Saab’s 9-3 model and that the front section was influenced by U.S.-based Cadillac’s BLS model.
Turkey, which has been working to produce its own car, had two choices according to the minister: To do everything by itself, which would take three to five years and about $1 billion in spending, or to cooperate with a well-known brand.
Işık said the talks with Saab to buy the intellectual property rights to the Saab 9-3 lasted six months.
“I cannot give figures,” he said, adding it was a “very affordable cost.”
He said Turkey’s main goal was to advance in the field of extended-range electric vehicles.
“This [Saab 9-3] will be a platform for that goal and we began developing it,” Işık said.
The minister said TÜBİTAK will assume the leadership of the project, but “the cooperation with National Electric Vehicle Sweden [Nevs], which developed the Saab 9-3, will continue.”

NEVS to begin building new cars in Trollhattan once again!
http://www.saabtala.com/nevs-to-begin-b ... nce-again/
Tom Ryner in Sweden has sent us the excellent news that NEVS is about to start building new Saabs in Trollhattan. Initially for the Chinese market, with Europe and the USA to follow.
Sadly they have stated they have no intention of building Petrol or Diesel powered cars, instead they will concentrate on production of electric cars only.
The electric and hybrid car market in the UK is around 2.5 % of total sales with around 20 different models available at present, so just how big a market share NEVS will have here is anyone’s guess.
But it is very welcome news that production is due to begin once again in significant numbers in Trollhattan. Well done NEVS.

Here are the new Saab-cars
Text and image credit: Jan-Erik Berggren/Expressen. Translation: Saabtala.com
By summer, the first new NEVS cars will be delivered to customers in China, and a year later it should be possible to buy a NEVS car in Sweden. This was revealed by the company’s CEO, Mattias Bergman, when he spoke at the Stora Bildagen (Big Car Day).
We have two more new models in the works, Bergman said, as he showed off a picture with sketches of the new models from Trollhattan.
After a few tough years, NEVS are near to the launch of its first new electric vehicle – dubbed the Corporate Sedan. The car is built on the same platform as the old 9-3 and will begin to be built in Trollhättan shortly.
-We will start with building painted car bodies and sending them to China for final assembly and delivery. By 2017 it should be possible buy NEVS cars in Sweden, revealed Mattias Bergman when he spoke at Stora Bildagen.
50 new employees per month
NEVS’s ambitious plans for large-scale production of electric cars slowed down when one of the previous owners did not complete their commitment.
-We were forced to take a break and secure new funding. Now we employ 50 people per month to launch production this summer. In total, the current owners have invested about four billion on NEVS. The slightly revised business plan still has a clear focus on electric vehicles and NEVS today have completely put aside plans to manufacture cars with internal combustion engines. After the Sedan, NEVS will launch a Family SUV, an Active Allrounder; an Urban Adventure and Sports Urban SUV. Mattias Bergman showed sketches of the cars NEVS have a target production of at least 60 000 cars per year in Trollhättan. A new car plant in Tianjin, a town that are funding Nevs, has a capacity of about 200 000 cars per year.
Production capacity for other manufacturers
-We are also negotiating to take production of another manufacturer in Trollättan. We offer a capacity of 60,000 cars in the year.
Mattias Bergman is also negotiating to use the Saab brand.
-A dialogue is ongoing but we can not tell you anything today.
When the factories rolls fully, the aim is to sell cars in Europe, USA and China. But it is not certain that it will be through traditional retailers. When NEVS previously tried to sell cars, they sold them over the internet.
-What I can say is that we will meet our customers where they want to be met, explained Mattias Bergman.

Swedish Electric Car Firm in $12 Billion Chinese Deal
By The Associated Press
National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the electric vehicle company born out of the ashes of Swedish automaker Saab, has inked a $12 billion deal with a Chinese leasing firm that it says goes a long way to meeting its business objectives.
In a statement Thursday, the company said it will be providing 150,000 sedans to Panda New Energy Co., a vehicle leasing company with a focus on low emission mobility solutions. It valued the deal at 78 billion yuan.
The company, which is owned by Chinese and Hong Kong investors and is more commonly known as Nevs says the 9-3-style sedan should be delivered by late 2020. The deal also includes "100 000 other (electric vehicle) products and services."
Nevs vice chairman Stefan Tilk said the deal is a "strategic collaboration" both in terms of the number of cars involved but also in the implementation of the company's "vision and new business plan."
Based in Trollhattan, southern Sweden, Nevs bought Saab out of bankruptcy in 2012 after a failed attempt to revive the brand by Spyker Cars of the Netherlands.
After starting off in 2013 producing gasoline-fuelled models, Nevs announced in May 2014 a production stop of the 9-3 sedans due to cash flow problems.
Nevs spokesman Mikael Ostlund said the body of the electric vehicles would be built in Trollhattan, while the final assembly would be made in Nevs' factory in China. He could not say immediately how many jobs would be created jobs in the former industrial city, which is struggling with a high unemployment rate.

Saab definitivno odlazi u istoriju
http://www.b92.net/automobili/aktuelno. ... id=1146381
