Colorado-Based Company Developing 1,000x More Powerful Battery

Despite saying that an improved version of the Lithium-Ion battery was at least 10 years away, apparently, it may not be the case, as a Colorado-based company founded in 2010, Prieto Battery, aims to make batteries which are 1,000 times more powerful then the current best.

How are they going to do it? Well, as with all future breakthroughs, regardless of what field of activity they may be in, it’s all down to nano-tech. The science behind the project is really rather complicated, but it has something to do with integrating nanowire and copper foam substrate into the construction of the battery, in order for current to flow more freely through the battery itself, allowing it to store substantially more current than what was thought to be currently possible. It could be used to replace the classic batteries in pretty much anything which is powered by electricity, while at the same time opening up new posibilities that weren't even conceivable before - that's what the era prior to the new tech is going to be referred to as ('before').

The people behind it, mainly its founder, Colorado State University assistant chemistry professor Amy Prieto, have already raised $5- (€4-) million for the cause. We honestly hope that their workplace doesn’t mysteriously catch fire or explode just as they are about to make the ‘big breakthrough’, as there’s still plenty of oil to sell, and such a revolutionary technology will upset certain people to the same extent that makes ‘normal’ people happy.

Ne bih previse komentarisao sta je moguce a sta ne, bilo bi lepo da se kapaciteti baterija ovako povecaju, medjutim nisam ubedjen previse u ovo sto sam procitao.
Konkretno znam da se najvise nade trenutno polaze u Litium-Air baterije, koje razvija IBM, trebale bi imati nekoliko puta veci kapacitet, medjutim i sam IBM ovaj projekat oznacava kao krajnje neizvestan. U svakom slucaju cak i ako se pokaze uspesan takve baterije se sigurno nece pojaviti bar jos 5 godina u prodaji.
S te strane, naravno da sam malo skeptican kada se ovako neko pojavi i sa tako malim budzetom pocne da prica o ni manje ni vise nego 1000 puta vecem kapacitetu...

Takodje i ovi sto pisu tekst su tehnicki polupismeni, a sve nesto kontam da su od negde valjda i preuzeli podatke, sta znaci 1000 puta veca snaga baterije? Sve mi se cini da su zeleli da kazu kapacitet a ne snaga, snaga je druga stvar. Pa onda pisu mogucnost da se skladisti daleko vise struje, struja se ne skladisti, energija se skladisti, tako da posle ovako nepreciznog teksta ne mogu ovo da uzmem previse ozbiljno.

A123 Systems Announce Battery Technology Breakthrough

Despite not going through the happiest financial situation, A123 systems are still working on new battery technology, having recently announced a breakthrough in nanophosphate EXT, offering numerous advantages over our current battery tech.

This new technology, which can allow batteries to maintain 90% of their initial charging capacity, even after 2,000 full charge-discharge cycles at 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit). According to official information, this new type of battery will also save up to €480 ($600) per car, allowing for a lower overall sale price for EVs - definitely a promising aspect.

A123 systems will also be hiring an additional 400 workers for their new Michigan plant, over the next four months, due to increased demand from customers in the electrical grid storage sector. According to A123 CEO, David Vieau, the new tech would “reduce or even eliminate the need for costly thermal management systems, which we expect will dramatically improve the business case for deploying A123’s lithium ion battery solutions for a significant number of applications.” - we’re all for the progress in battery tech so we hope they make it and their breakthrough is all they say it is.

Bilo bi lepo da mogu da naprave baterije koje ne gube toliko kapacitet na nizim temperaturama.

U sustini mozda i vec postoje, ali naravno ko ce protiv naftnog lobija, a izvori fosilnih goriva nece skoro presusiti, sumnjam da ce se tako nesto desiti za naseg veka.

Zbog čega su mnogo češći i rasprostranjeniji, posebno u jeftinijim kategorijama, hibridi sa benzinskim nego hibridi sa dizel motorima? Kad već dizel manje troši sam po sebi...

Možda lupam, al' mislim da učestalo startovanje/zaustavljanje agregata znatno lakše podnose benzinci, kao i rad u hladnom režimu :think:

Benzinski motori su jeftiniji od savremenih dizela pa je i to možda razlog. Hibridi su i ovako preskupi. Sa dizelom bi bili samo još skuplji.

Nije nebitna ni težina svih džidža-bidža koje idu uz CR dizelaše, kao i prostor koji im je potreban. Mislim na silne filtere, interkulere, turbine, creva itd...

Ovo što kaže Paja je i meni palo na pamet prevashodno, ali onda arzmišljam, ko da onolike pare za buđavog Prijusa, sigurno bi dao i još 2000e više za dizela...

I u CH su Priusi postali veoma popularni...sve vise ih ima.
Inace, u skoro svakom novijem americkom filmu se pojavljuje po neki Prius i cesto postoje i zajebancije na racun tog auta :D

Kad smo kod alternativnih pogona, vec sam napisao u drugoj temi da sam probao Chevrolet Volt (Opel Ampera) i mogu da kazem da i ako to radi sasvim lepo ali ne znam da li bih vozio takav auto...za te pare sigurno ne.
Buke (one prijatne :mrgreen: ) od motora nema ali zato do izrazaja dolazi sve ostalo...cujes bukvalno kad predjes preko kamencica, buka od guma jos izrazenija, prelazak preko neravnina isto a ono blago pistanje (zujanje) elektromotora kad se doda gas, asocira na trolejbus :)
