Ferrari sets up factory in Maranello for Haas

Earlier this month, Haas announced that the head of Ferrari's chassis development division, Simone Resta , would strengthen its technical division from 1 January 2021 . However, it seems that this will not be the only transfer from Ferrari to the American team, as the Italian team announced that additional staff will work for Haas.

More specifically, as Ferrari prepares to challenge its staff reductions in response to the budget cap , the Italian team is building a new hub factory, close to its own, which will employ staff working exclusively for Haas.

Ferrari racing director Mattia Binotto said:

These people will be in Maranello, but in a completely different building from the Scuderia Ferrari. They will not have access to the Scuderia Ferrari building. They are separate buildings and will remain there.

With Binotto making it clear that Ferrari's relationship with Haas will remain customer level and there will be no sharing of ideas and breach of regulations, stressing:

As far as we know, they are our customers. Some of us will go to their team and I think it is a good opportunity for them. It is a good opportunity, because doing so will strengthen their body and their technical organization.

It was something necessary for us, because we had to reduce our body to meet the limitations of the budget cap. But Haas remains a completely independent team compared to Ferrari. It is not a junior team and we do not exchange information beyond what the regulations allow.

Binotto said that in this way he feels more comfortable that Ferrari staff will work in Haas, and will not have to fire him and find himself working in any other team, saying:

If I had to choose and reduce my body, I am certainly happier that all of them would go to Haas and strengthen it, instead of being free in the market and available to all teams. This is how we see collaborations.

Marko confirms Red Bull and Honda have agreed engine deal for 2022!

Helmut Marko has confirmed that Red Bull have reached an agreement with Honda to use its engines beyond 2021. The Japanese engine supplier will leave the sport after 2021, so Red Bull have been looking for a new engine supplier. The only thing left to do is wait for the FIA, because a development stop is required to finalise the deal.

Red Bull have an agreement with Honda to continue using their engines from 2022 onwards, but the Austrian formation itself does not have the knowledge and resources to continue developing the engine until 2025 or 2026. A development stop on the engines is required, but this has been under discussion for months.

Helmut Marko told Auto, Motor und Sport that the FIA will probably provide clarity next week. The other manufacturers (Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault) all have to agree to the plan as well and that is quite a task. Marko appealed to his colleagues: "It is a very clear common sense decision for Formula 1."

Everything is settled with Honda
At least with Honda, the final details have been agreed. "Everything is settled between us. The moment is there. Everyone is on the starting blocks. But there is no agreement until we have written proof from the FIA that the development stop on the engine side will be there," continued Marko.
