Jordi Gené tells the secrets of Nürburgring record the Seat León Cupra

The Seat León Cupra is the fastest car on the planet in a front wheel drive around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. His lap time of 7:58.4 to beat in ten seconds the best time of Renault Mégane Sport Trophy and beat the manager was a Spanish pilot Jordi Gené. We talked with him and he told us the inside story of the assault on the legendary German track record.

Seat conquer the 'Green Hell'
How and when did the idea of trying to beat the record of Nürburgring from?
The idea was born over a year ago. Jaime Puig called me to try street cars of different brands in the Nordschlife, Cupra very early in the project. We saw the car, still in prototype stage could be very close to the record. The Lion and then was equal to or better than Renault have had. Time passed and I was suggested to try to see how long we would do with it. Interested me a lot because I had never been involved in the development of a road car although took fourteen with Seat.

The experience should be basic layout for a challenge of this kind ...
The next question was whether I could meet the challenge not knowing the track, but I asked Jaime Puig to give me some time to train. He was sure that there would be a difference stunt rider. I took three days riding and all, taking a ticket and a rental car, sharing the track with buses and motorcycles. Then as I was able to roll with the FR with a pilot there, I saw that I was faster than him and from there butt and got involved in the challenge of the fastest lap.

How many kilometers on the Nordschleife has added to assault this record?
9,000 kilometers, which are few. Knowing the layout is critical because often you do not see the curves or references braking or acceleration with elevation changes of the track. You have to have them completely memorized. Experience required. Those who are thinking that a day or two of workouts can compete with specialists are wrong. Do not make a mistake here is almost impossible and depending on where you do it can cost several seconds if you get caught after a long straight. It is a very demanding track.

How is Léon with which you managed the fastest lap?
's a production car, with a couple of very minor changes and can be put to go down the street, a performance pack that includes tires also standard but more performance (about Michelin Pilot Cup 2) and brakes a tad big (and signed by Brembo). The Megane record and we beat a León Cupra without the Performance pack, but we were so close to eight minutes we set out to do. That could not download it without making any changes, but could not get off the weight and increase power. So we came up with the pack.

What are the main qualities of the León Cupra as a sports car?
Cupra The big advantage is that the sport mode really changes the personality of the car. It's like you have two different one. The key to its performance is the electronic differential, in quotes, does the same as that of a Formula 1 to have multiple locking morons. Thus, it manages to convey all the power to the ground, which is essential in a car with front wheel drive many horses. The Cupra, long, is what makes it better, allowing you to exit the curve better than the rest.
Another very important element is the suspension system: between Comfort and Cupra so there are big differences. The Cupra mode is intended for circuits, is that we develop for the record. The maps of differential and suspension are created to beat those adopted in the model for sale. So I want to buy one, because you can tell that by Seat Sport technicians who have worked on maps of Comfort, Normal and Sport modes, I've developed.

And finally, how is the Green Hell?
did a race in 2003 but have shot before and when I graduated and I went home and did not know where she was. It is terrible so fast you're going and the number of brands that are there trying. Leon prve generacije mi se jako svidjao, pogled na drugu me je ostavio ravnodusnim, mogu reci cak i da mi se nije uopste svideo, dok sam trecu video svega par puta i nisam formirao misljenje o njoj. Belu boju kola nesto ne mirisem, ali kada sam veceras u saobracaju video Leon FR sa LED svetlima i ovim 18-icama, a posle igrom slucaja i prosao pored njega na parkingu, ostao sam bez teksta. Kapa dole!

Bas ono sto je trebalo da mu srede verujem da je unutrasnjost odbijala potencijalne kupce. Licno mi se u beloj mnogo svidja. Kad sam pre par godina na bg sajmu seo u njega, odusevio sam se.
