The Scenic XMOD is front-wheel drive, but improved adverse weather performance is claimed to be offered thanks to a new Grip Xtend traction control system.

Grip Xtend is manually controlled using a rotary knob on the centre console. ‘Road’ mode is the standard setting, working as a traditional traction control system. Loose Ground mode controls engine torque and optimises braking control in low-grip surfaces. In Expert mode, braking control is undertaken by the system, leaving the driver in control of the engine.

Fiat mulls low-cost brand, Marchionne says

Marchionne has been reluctant to get into the low-cost niche.

TURIN -- Fiat is considering launching a low-cost sub-brand to rival Renault's Dacia, CEO Sergio Marchionne said. If approved, cars for the brand would be built outside of Europe to reduce manufacturing costs.

"We are wondering if there is space for a low-cost brand such as Dacia in the Fiat world," Marchionne said on Sunday in an interview at the Carignano theater in Turin.

Fiat has plenty of spare capacity at its Italian plants but Marchionne said the automaker could not make a profit building a car in its home market that would sell in Europe for 7,450 euros. He said Fiat is currently analyzing its manufacturing capacity outside of Europe to see if a low-cost brand is viable.

Back on table

Fiat has looked at a low-cost brand over the past five years but not gone ahead with such a project because executives were worried that the business plan was not profitable.

Among names considered for the brand were Innocenti, an Italian brand Fiat bought in 1990. The brand launched the Innocenti Mini in 1974, styled by Bertone and based on the underpinnings of the original Morris Mini. Other options included names where a combination of letters or numbers linked to the idea of a back-to-basics product, such as ABC or 123.

The low-cost brand project is now back on the table as Marchionne wants to move the Fiat brand more upscale, concentrating on two families of near-premium models based on the iconic 500 and Panda minicars. "We need to see if there is a space left below after the Fiat brand moves up," Marchionne said.

Other automakers are launching or considering budget brands to meet growth in the segment in emerging markets such as China and India and growing demand for "crisis cars" in austerity-hit Europe.

Nissan will sell its revived Datsun brand in Russia, India and Indonesia starting in 2014. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn said at the Detroit auto show last month that a decision on a budget car for emerging markets would be taken this year. VW is looking at a price range of between 5,000 and 10,000 euros and may build the car in China, sources said.

Despite its low retail price, Dacia is a cash cow for Renault. Morgan Stanley estimates that Dacia has an operating margin of 9 percent, which is more common for premium automakers.

The first sketch of the Honda Civic Wagon has been released, ahead of the concept’s debut at the Geneva motor show next month.

Honda says the concept strongly hints at the production version, which will be built at the firm’s plant in Swindon. The car is likely to go on sale towards the end of the year.

The sketch shows the concept will retain the hatchback’s hidden rear door handle to create an almost two-door shooting brake look. The car’s rear-end styling echoes that of the larger Accord Tourer.

The production version of the Honda Civic Wagon is tipped to be the most spacious Civic yet. It will feature the hatchback’s range of petrol and diesel engines, but sales are likely to major on the recently-launched 1.6-litre diesel.

The latest iteration of the Honda NSX concept and the new Honda CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC will also make their European debuts at the Geneva show.

Toyota ima najniže emisije CO2 u evropskoj autoindustriji


• Toyota Motor Europe predvodnik industrije sa najnižim emisijama CO2 od 109 g/km.
• 2011. je prosečna emisija Toyote Motor Europe smanjena za 3 g/km u odnosu na 2010.
• Sedam Toyota i Lexus modela imaju emisije CO2 ispod 100 g/km, od čega pet modela ima ispod 90 g/km.
• „Toyota Deutschland“ je 2012. imala najniži nivo emisija u Nemačkoj.
• „Toyota GB“ primila prvu nagradu od Partnerstva za vozila sa niskom emisijom ugljen-dioksida.

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) je još jednom dokazala da je na samom evropskom vrhu po pitanju emisija CO2, nakon što su objavljeni rezultati za 2011. od strane Evropske komisije i Evropske agencije za zaštitu životne sredine. Prosečna emisija CO2 za asortiman TME je 109.3 g/km, što je za 3 g/km manje nego 2010. i 19 g/km manje od plana Evropske komisije za 2011.

VW je tek 8. na listi. Zanimljivo da je Fiat na drugom mestu.

Mislim kome je to vazno sigurno da ce da cijeni napore Toyote koja se ozbiljno uhvatila u kostac sa tim problemima i koja pravi vjerovatno najbolje hibridne automobile. Meni licno je to potpuno nebitno trenutno, mada ce me mozda vec za par godina interesovati ako slucajno uvedu sistem placanja poreza prema CO2 koje auto emituje, dok nema tog pravila potpuno mi je nevazna emisija co2...

Fiat je po meni drugi zato sto proizvodi male automobile, ne moze Mercedes (BMW/Audi) da napravi auto od preko 4.5m i da u njega ubaci 1.3 mjet sa 95g co2/km, tako da me to ne cudi ali je podatak interesantnan...

Toyotu hibridi izvlače, a Fiat je sa klasičnim motorima prošle godine bio prvi. ;)
