14% of Italian Motorists Have Vandalized a Car
We live in a very sanitized, civilized world, but somehow cars do get the best of us and we don’t mean that in a good way. Road rage often extends beyond the driving part itself, and Italians, who are often guilty of really reckless driving and tend to scratch your paint or hit a mirror.
According to a study by the Research and Documentation Center Direct Line, more than 14% of drivers in Italy have admitted that they have vandalized somebody else’s car. Of those, 7% said they streaked the paint, 3% said they hit a mirror and 2% said they broken a wiper.
Less vulnerable are the windows (1%) and tires (1%). On a gender-based basis, 8% of women say they’ve scored a car, while 4% of men say they damaged a mirror.
But it seems that car vandalism is not something that young drivers necessarily do, as only 5% of under-25s admit to damaging the body of somebody’s car, while that figure doubles to 10% in the case of 25 to 35 year olds.
The UK Most Vandalised Cars
It seems as if more and more prestige marques are becoming the target of vandals, and figures that have been released by a top car insurer has named the Lexus IS as the most vandalized car in the UK.
The BMW Z4 came in second and then the Mini One was named the third most vandalized car. Swiftcover has created a database called the “Vehicle Vandalism Index.” It seems most of the cars in the top ten are prestige cars, coming in Fourth the Mercedes CLK and the Audi TT fifth.

Claims director, Robin Reams said “the majority of vehicles in the top ten are what we call 'executive cars', likely to be driven by high earners who see their car as a status symbol, with just one 4x4 making up the top ten. Our analysis shows that luxury cars are more likely to be targeted by vandals, however, it's interesting to see the Mini ONE in the top three.”
Number six on the list is the Mazda MX-5 then BMW X5 and the Skoda Octavia, which shows it’s not just the executive models that are frequently vandalized.
Ford vehicles are vandalised less frequently. This could be because they have better security systems, or just not as much in demand by the vandalists.
