1990 Audi 100 C4

Inhouse alternative developed at the Audi Design Studio under the guidance of J Mays.
While for the C3 generation, Ferdinand Piëch wanted to take inspiration from the Ro 80 in order to become a milestone for the Eighties, the goal of the new 100 C4 was very different for Hartmut Warkuß and his team. The 100 C3 and the future Audi 80 (B3) established the basis of a new design language (thanks to Christopher Bird) and now needed to be perennial. The design work started in 1984 and 1:5 scale models were quickly reviewed. Some of them included a front-end grille later introduced on the 1988 Audi V8. And as much as the new exterior remained classic "Audi", work on improving the interior went much deeper.
