How Lotus went almost bankrupt due to the good performances of Raikkonen

After two years of absence Kimi Raikkonen made a comeback in 2012 in Formula 1 with the Lotus team. Although the qualities of the Finn were highly valued, no one took into account that this adventure would lead to great successes, not even the Lotus team management. Something that would eventually cost them dearly.

Finnish motorsport journalist Heikki Kulta tells for the official Formula 1 website the stories about Kimi Raikkonen that have stayed with him the most for the past 20 years. Not only does he try to better understand Raikkonen's peculiar character, but he also talks about achievements that are somewhat underexposed. One of these are the two seasons Raikkonen rode for Lotus.

At the end of 2011 it was announced that Raikkonen would join Lotus after an absence of two years. Something Raikkonen himself also had doubts about. After all, due to the departure of Renault, the team was no longer a factory team. However, Kulta soon saw that it was all right.

"I was really surprised to see how quickly he was able to adapt. In the fourth race of 2012, in Bahrain, he already finished in second place. His victory later that season in Abu Dhabi will always stay with me, especially when I wear the 'Leave Me Alone' hoodie, which I got as a present at Christmas".

How Lotus almost went bankrupt
That year Raikkonen would eventually be third in the world championship with one victory and seven podium finishes. In 2013 Raikkonen also started with a win in Australia, but behind the scenes his performance didn't do the team any good at all.

"He scored 390 points for Lotus in two years. Team boss Gérard Lopez certainly didn't count on that, because the deal he had made with Kimi to pay him a 50,000 euro bonus per point almost led to bankruptcy. Only with that bonus Raikkonen earned 19.5 million euros".

At least, he should have. During the 2013 season Raikkonen got paid nothing at all and therefore he quit before the end of the year. For the next season he would sign a contract with Ferrari, who would just pay out.

Mugello to host Ferrari’s 1000th race

An agreement has reportedly been reached for Mugello to be added to the calendar. Specifically, it will host Ferrari’s 100oth race.
It has been heavily rumoured that the track owned by the Italian team will become a part of the 2020 schedule.
With Ferrari hitting 1000 races this season, many believed a second Italian Grand Prix would take place there to mark the occasion. It now looks like this will indeed be the case.
According to Auto, Motor und Sport, F1 has officially scheduled the race to take place on the 13th of September, a week after the race in Monza.
According to the report, it will be the final race in a triple-header starting at Spa before heading to Italy. After it, there will be a two-week break.

Ispade na kraju dobra trka. U početku očekivao sam smor trku i dominaciju Mercedesa i 10+ sekundi prednosti u odnosu na trećeg, ali uz sva ova odustajanja i SC, na kraju ispalo skroz neočekivano. Apsolutno zaslužena pobeda Botasa. Hamilton ponovo upropastio trku Albonu, koji je mogao možda i do pobede, ali jbg. Možda je mogao i veću kaznu da dobije. Najveće iznenađenje Ferrari na drugom mestu, mislim da ni najveći optimista kod njih nije mogao da očekuje ovakav ishod. Lando Noris osvojio prvi podijum u karijeri, potpuno zasluženo. U svakom slučaju mislim da nas očekuje zanimljiva trka sledeće nedelje na istoj stazi.

Šta je zanimljivo ovde, samo prva 4 vozača u istom krugu. Meni nije jasno zašto sad neko ne dovede u pitanje legalnost Mercedesa. Prošle godine kada je Ferari bio samo za nijansu brži, ako i toliko, digla se kuka i motika. Luis kuka, Mercedes kuka, RB takođe, sad odjednom sve kul, niko ni da posumnja da li je sve legalno. Takođe onaj DAS sistem upravljanja, ove godine je legalan, sledeće nije, a pravila zvanično ista i ove i sledeće godine.

pa mercedes je dokazano najbolji godinama sta da se dovede u pitanje??? ljudi rade, imaju strucan kadar, imaju najbljeg vozaca sta vise. Kod njih greske i prepustanje slucaju ne postoji. DAS ne koriste.
ferari ima šaraltane koji vode ekipu vec godinama a izgleda i medju vozacima, leclerc dao malo nade prosle godine a sad kad fale sa bolidom odmah problemi, pogubio se totalno, na prosloj trci pocetnicka greska, danas ne zna gde je levo. Fetel standardno srlja i gresi, sa Saincom ce tek da se usrece.

Sta god da je ovakvi sampionati su sranje za gledanje.
