Toyota brings back Land Cruiser 70 for 30th anniversary

Toyota is re-launching its iconic Launch Cruiser 70 in Japan to commemorate the utility vehicle's 30th anniversary.
Toyota actually ceased Japanese Land Cruiser 70 sales in 2004, but fans of the off-roader have been clamoring for its return ever since. Looking to satisfy that loyal fan base, Toyota announced on Monday that the Land Cruiser 70 will be back in dealer showrooms for the next year.
Not much has changed in the Land Cruiser 70's 10-year absence, but Toyota has updated the utility vehicle's front fascia with a new hood, grille and headlights. The interior has also been given a light sprucing.
The Land Cruiser will be available as a van and, for the first time in Japan, as a crew-cab pickup.
Both body styles are powered by a 228 horsepower, 265 lb-ft of torque version of Toyota's 4.0L V6 engine. A five-speed manual is the only transmission on offer.
The Land Cruise 70 is fitted as standard with a part-time four-wheel drive system. Buyers can also order an available electric locking differential for extra traction.
The Land Cruiser 70 van will retail from about $34,615 while the pickup will list from $33,655. Toyota plans to make 200 units of the Land Cruiser 70 per month over the next year.
