Audi R8 facelift
Judging from its evergreen looks, it is hard to believe Audi R8 is already 5 years old. However, a late-life facelift wouldn't hurt. There are subtle tweaks to its nose and tail, including a slightly hexagonal front grille, new headlights and taillights. They might be too subtle to spot, but they should keep new buyers happy without displeasing existing owners.
The big news is the transmission though. After years of wait, Audi has finally built a 7-speed S Tronic (dual-clutch) gearbox for its mid-engined machine. Its gearshift should be way smoother and faster than the outgoing R-Tronic automated manual. 6-speed manual gearbox is still available to purists, but the S Tronic can shorten 0-60 mph acceleration by as much as 0.3 seconds. This mean only 4.2 seconds for the V8 and 3.5 seconds for the V10 model.
As before, the 4.2-liter V8 and 5.2-liter V10 produce 430 hp / 317 lbft and 525 hp / 391 lbft respectively. Now a third model called V10 Plus is added to the range. It features some hotter parts and tuning from the outgoing limited edition R8 GT, including ceramic brakes, sports bucket seats, stiffer suspension, reduced sound insulation and some carbon-fiber parts (side blades, front splitter, rear diffuser and door mirrors). Its engine is also tuned closer to the territory of GT, delivering 550 hp and 398 lbft. It is capable to top 197 mph and sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
