Calibra and Cascada Names Trademarked in the US

General Motors has registered the Cascada and Calibra names with the US Patent and Trademark Office on December 18th of 2013. This indicates that the automaker might be considering a few new two-door models for its American customers, much needed additions to the Buick model range.

The Cascada is already a production reality, the D-segment convertible which Audi launched last year, convinced it will attract customers by undercutting the Audi A5 Cabrio in price. However, the Calibra is an even more important car for GM. It's a name that thousands of Opel fans hold close to their hearts, a legendary coupe that's hot with the tuning scene. Sold in impressive numbers in the 90s and based on the Vectra, it's one of GM's best know European nameplates.

The rumor is a little strange though, as it indicates the Calibra and Cascada were trademarked as Opel, this brand not being available Stateside.

While the Cascada is a brand new nameplate and could easily take up the Buick badge, the same can't be said about the Calibra. However, the Calibra did put on a Chevrolet badge for a little while.
