Almost 500 employees of Ford factory in Craiova will leave their jobs based on the voluntary layoff program. Initially the program was targeting 680 layoffs, but the automotive producer decided to have shorter working hours so that more layoffs should be avoided.

Ford informed on the layoffs in November last year, arguing they are run due to economic reasons. The action would affect 680 positions. Yet, later on Ford Romania and the factory’s trade unions came to terms to implement a depressed working program that would allow the company to keep other 170 employees.

Before the layoffs, 3,200 persons were working at Craiova Ford factory.

The American carmaker is producing B-Max model and EcoBoost fuel engine in Craiova. B-Max assembling was initiated mid 2012, the model being exclusively produced in Craiova and sold only on the European market.

B-Max production was halted for 40 days in the first nine months of 2014, and so did the engines division. The production was halted in 2013 as well for 35 days.

BERLIN (Reuters) -- Volkswagen will probably stop making three-door versions of the Polo hatchback, as Europe's largest carmaker accelerates cost cutting at its core division, company sources said.

The VW brand will launch an overhauled Polo in 2017 and may discontinue the subcompact variant as demand for three-door hatchbacks is falling, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday, adding that the next-generation Polo would only come with five doors.

The Polo, which VW has been building for four decades, was Europe's No. 4-selling vehicle last year, only trailing the VW Golf, Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio, according to data from JATO Dynamics.

Wolfsburg-based VW is shrinking the number of parts and dropping unprofitable models such as the Eos hardtop convertible as it aims to boost cost savings at the VW brand, its biggest division by sales and deliveries, to 5 billion euros ($5.5 billion) a year by 2017.

To help profits, VW is also increasingly relying on the gradual adoption of its MQB modular platform for building a wide range of cars. The Polo, which received its mid-term facelift in 2014, is not yet based on MQB.

"We are on track with our efficiency program," VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said this week at the Geneva auto show.

A VW spokesman said "there are no decisions yet" on future lineups of the Polo and Beetle models.

Germany's Spiegel magazine reported plans to cease three-door Polos earlier on Friday, saying this would save VW 200 million euros.

The Beetle, last overhauled in 2011, could also be discontinued, Spiegel said, without citing the source of the information.

VW works council chief Bern Osterloh in January called on management to tackle the costly proliferation of models and parts at the VW brand, saying there was potential to cut costs by "substantially more" than the planned 5 billion euros.

GENEVA -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin sales of a new hatchback and station wagon in Europe's key compact segment next year, CEO Sergio Marchionne said.

The Turkey-built cars will be sold in Western Europe, Marchionne said. Previous reports said the cars would be sold only in Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey.

"We will start exports from Turkey next year. They will be sold across the EU," Marchionne said at the Geneva auto show this week, adding that a compact sedan could be added later.

The new models will plug a big hole in Fiat's European product lineup. The compact car segment, led by the Volkswagen Golf, is Europe's second biggest by sales after subcompacts.

Fiat's aging Bravo accounted for fewer than 4,000 of the 2,385,803 compacts sold in Europe last year, according to data from JATO Dynamics. In January, Fiat sold just 93 units of the Bravo, which is being phased out.

Fiat has not sold a wagon in Europe since the Stilo Multiwagon was discontinued in 2008. Fiat sells the Linea, a compact sedan built in Turkey, in Eastern Europe. The Linea will be replaced by the new Turkey-built sedan, but it will only be added to Fiat’s lineup in Europe if there is enough demand, Marchionne said. There currently is little demand for compact sedans in Europe

The new compact range will be based on Fiat's small wide platform that also underpins cars such as the Fiat 500L and 500X, as well as the Jeep Renegade.

Last November, Fiat's Turkish joint venture, Tofas, said it will build a combined 700,000 units of the new compact range over the life cycle of the vehicles until 2023, mainly for export.

Vrlo mi je kul sto toyota trenutno ima ubedljivo najruzniji line up u Evropi.

Ja ne znam cime se oni drogiraju, al nikako im ne valja.

Lexus takođe su nagrdili.

Valjda znaju šta rade ili se samo bore da postanu prepoznatljivi bilo kojim drugim parametrom izuzev pouzdanosti.

Ja se u potpunosti slazem sa Veljom, zaista r8 deluje kao igracka pored NSX-a.

As of this writing, Honda is rapidly approaching its Formula 1 comeback as the power behind McLaren at the Australian Grand Prix, and the brand is also busy readying two of Japan’s most anticipated sports cars, the new NSX and the 2016 Civic Type R. Now comes news from inside Honda's R&D center in Tochigi that the unloved CR-Z hybrid sports coupe will get a new lease on life in the form of an all-new, more performance-oriented model in three years.

Honda’s American arm has been pleading for a gutsy, attractive, and reasonably priced coupe to bolster its brand image, and a source with close ties to the Japanese mothership says the next CR-Z will be the answer. "Remember the CR-Z? It’s due to make a big comeback in 2017," we’re told.

"The two reasons that forced Honda to phase it out [in Europe and Australia], namely its weak street cred and lack of performance thanks to its ho-hum hybrid power unit, have been addressed. The new coupe will be a force to reckon with," insists our source.

The original model was based on a modified version of the Fit platform, but unlike the Fit, with its centrally located fuel tank, the CR-Z’s tank was repositioned at the rear. To keep costs down, the new CR-Z's platform will be borrowed from the next-generation Civic, but with four inches chopped from the wheelbase.

Expected to be marginally bigger than the current CR-Z, the new model will borrow design cues from the new NSX and the Civic Type R. Under the hood will be a detuned version of the Type R's turbocharged, 2.0-liter VTEC four-cylinder pumping out more than 280 horsepower. In fact, it looks as if the CR-Z will be positioned and marketed as a high-performance coupe version of the next-generation U.S. Civic, which means it may be called the Civic CR-Z.

While the U.S. version will be fitted with the 2.0-liter engine, Honda is planning to revisit the hybrid for the Japanese domestic market; that edition will employ a turbocharged 1.5-liter hybrid i-DCD powertrain generating upwards of 200 horsepower and incorporating an eight-speed automatic transmission.

While it’s still some way out, we understand a CR-Z prototype or concept car may surface at the 2017 Detroit show in advance of an on-sale date sometime in early 2018.
