Voyager 1 is a 722-kilogram (1,592 lb) space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977 to study the outer Solar System. Operating for 36 years, 6 months and 13 days as of 18 March 2014, the spacecraft communicates with the Deep Space Network to receive routine commands and return data. At a distance of about 127.22 AU (1.903×1010 km) from the Earth as of 18 March 2014, it is the farthest human-made object from Earth.

Gary Bernstein - The evidence for Dark Matter
November 2015, Barcelona.
Under the title ‘The evidence for Dark Matter’ the conference was given by Prof Gary Bernstein, from Pennsylvania University, who talked about the evidences on the existence of dark matter and how scientists get these evidences.
Prof Bernstein studied Physics at Princeton University and did his PhD at Berkeley University, California, in 1989. His professional career started at the Bell Laboratories and at different North American universities. However, since 2002, he is professor at Pennsylvania University.
His fields of study are astronomy and cosmology and Prof Bernstein is the inventor of the first astronomic camera with multiple CCDs, which supposed a great development for these areas of Physics. In 2000 he did the first measurements of the weak gravitational lens effect, a technique used to prove the existence of the dark matter.
Prof Bernstein has become an authority in the field and, since 2014, is the scientific coordinator of the Dark Energy Survey experiment, in which IFAE has some collaboration.
