Production Alfa Romeo Giulia starts in Illinois

There is some new information available about the Alfa Romeo Giulia, even though it is not much. That we call this D-segment Alfa Romeo Giulia is one thing, but if the car will have this name for sure is not certain yet. At Fiat the car is also called Giulia, so we anticipate on this famous name. For 2013 the 4C will make Alfa Romeo’s debut in the US, the Giulia should start the next year and broaden the scope of the brand in the US. The Giulia will be built at the Belvidere factory located in Illinois. The same factory were the Dodge Dart is produced. The Giulia will be the largest car based on the Compact Wide platform, a lot of versions are possible. Also the confirmation of a new V6 engine was mentioned. This V6 engine (also used by Maserati) will be fitted to the new Alfa. According to the most recent information we believe that the 4,8 meter long Giulia will be the top-of-the-range model for Alfa Romeo. The current prospect for an E-segment Alfa Romeo with RWD, is not scheduled for the moment.

The factory in Belvidere will employ a lot more people with the production of the Giulia. The technology for the car is mainly shared by other cars like the Dodge Dart/ Fiat Viaggio, but also future cars like the Lancia Flavia (and Chrysler 200, which will be built at Sterling Heights). Based on insider information you can see these drawings and also in the gallery below. We expect a stongly designed saloon (and Sportwagon) with a lot of styling characteristics of the 4C and some subtle references to the Dart/Viaggio.

2013 will be an arduous year for Alfa Romeo in Europe. The 4C won’t be available right from the start, as the US market has a higher priority. Keeping in mind that the US has a relatively small amount of dealerships, there is some hope. The assembly of the car in Modena will be focused on the American introduction and only later supply the dealerships in Italy and the rest of Europe. Let us be clear about the production at the Maserati factory, there is no assembly line for mass production.

American analysts publicly doubt if Alfa Romeo shall be successful in the premium segment. Fiat aims at positioning Alfa Romeo as a car manufacturer for high quality Italian sports cars and sportive saloons globally, just under its brands Maserati and Ferrari. China has the second highest priority after the US. According to an analyst of the Wall Street Journal yesterday, other premium brands (Honda, Infiniti) have proven that it will be hard to establish themselves besides strong premium brands like VAG, Daimler and BMW. Lingotto is confident it will succeed, as Alfa Romeo is one of the strongest brand names in the world.

Mnogo mi se svidja ovaj render Inace alfu sam tek 'zgotivio' od modela 159, a onda giulietta, mito. One prethodne mi nikad nisu bile neki vrhunac dizajna koliko se to uvek forsiralo

Nije se ništa forsiralo nego se prepoznalo i priznalo.
Nove Alfe su ok, ali su smešne u poređenju sa dizajnom sa velikim brojem starijih modela. Neke od njih su i umetnička dela. A i ne mora se ići daleko u prošlost - mnogo su dizajnerski slabiji i od 156, 147 i GTV koji su modeli iz bliske prošlosti.
