What would be your first reaction if you saw an old woman fall on the street? Many would say that they would come over and help. However, there is another thought in China. "What if they turn around and blame me for their injuries?" A Good Samaritan law that recently went into effect in China may help people gain a more positive guide in situations like this.
Under the new law, people who voluntarily offer assistance to those who are, or who they believe to be, injured, ill, in danger or otherwise incapacitated, will not have civil liability in the event of harm befalling the victims. The legislation has been compiled into the General Principles of Civil Law (Article 184) this March and was put into practice at the beginning of October, becoming the center of discussion among both expats and locals in China.
