A 42-year-old man was arrested in the Spanish city of Getaria when police searched a stolen generator and found it in a warehouse where the man had hidden 26 sports cars from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s that he had stolen.
Among the stolen cars were a Lancia Delta HF Integrale, a Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, a Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, several Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, two M3 (E30 and E36), a Renault 5 Turbo, a Subaru Impreza STi, one Ford Escort Cosworth and a Peugeot 205 GTi. Police also found 10,000 euros in cash and two weapons.
According to the police investigation, the cars were stolen from various European countries. In some of the cars, the chassis numbers were forged, which means that the man intended to sell them. The cars will be returned to their owners.
