"The diecast car models are from 3 manufacturers that no longer produce them: The Danbury Mint, The Franklin Mint and West Coast Precision Diecast. The good news is that you can find them on e-bay. The bad news is that some of the asking prices are off the scale.
Originally, each diecast cost around $120 each. That might seem like a lot, but the quality of the finish and level of detail defies description. They have working suspension, plumbed engines, opening hoods, trunks and doors along with highly detailed interiors. Some had glove compartments that opened. The wheels steer from the steering wheel. The front seats fold forward, and there is a removable spare tire in the trunk. And the list goes on. Truly, they are works of art as you can see from my photos.
I started collecting back in the 1990s when they were first introduced. Each company offered about 5 different models a year, so that wasn't such a strain on my wallet. Plus, these vehicles were my only vice. Really."
