Germany's premium brands are under pressure to accelerate their plans for electric cars after Tesla's Model S outsold the luxury flagships of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi in Europe for the first time.
European sales of the Model S outstripped German premium brands' range-topping sedans including the Mercedes S class and BMW 7 series.
The Model S has outsold German rivals in the upper-sedan category in the U.S in previous years, but never in Europe.
"This is an alarm for the traditional automakers such as Mercedes. It says a smaller but smarter brand such as Tesla can beat them at home," said Felipe Munoz, an analyst with market researchers JATO Dynamics.
European automakers need to address the electrification faster because customers are showing more and more interest in such vehicles and it seems that the traditional industry "can't deliver on time," Munoz said.

After years of dismissing Tesla, European luxury brands are now preparing to launch full-electric rivals to Tesla's growing lineup.
Jaguar will unveil its first full-electric model, the I-Pace on March 1 ahead of the car's public debut at the Geneva auto show on March 6. Audi will unveil its first volume EV, the e-tron Quattro in Brussels in August. Both models will go up against the Tesla Model X in the booming crossover market, rather than compete with the Model S sedan.
Later this year, Porsche is expected to unveil its Mission E, a performance sedan rival to the Model S, ahead of its sales launch next year. At next month's Geneva show Volkswagen brand will unveil the Vizzion concept previewing a sedan flagship for its I.D. electric subbrand that could be a Model S competitor.
Sales of the Model S in Europe jumped 30 percent to 16,132 last year, according to JATO. Mercedes S class sales grew 3 percent to 13,359. BMW 7 series had sales of 11,735, down 13 percent.
In the U.S., Model S sales rose 9 percent to 28,800 last year, outselling closest rivals, the Cadillac XTS, whose volume fell 27 percent to 16,275 and the S class, whose sales were down 16 percent to 15,888, according to Automotive News Data Center.
Tesla is competing strongly in Europe's large premium SUV market with the Model X. Its sales in the region last year were 12,000, about the same as the Porsche Cayenne and nearly 2,000 more than the BMW X6, according to JATO data.
Tesla is slowly ramping up production of the delayed Model 3, a smaller sedan that will compete with midsize and large premium sedans. The car has gone on sale in the U.S. but no sales were recorded by JATO in Europe last year.

Tesla S je klasa E klase i Bmw 5ice, a ne S i 7, a takva joj je i cena.
Prodaje se samo zato sto uz olaksice koje daju neke zemlje za elektricna vozila, u kojima se i ostvaruje 95% prodaje u Evropi, kosta kao malo bolji Golf.

U konkretnom slucaju Nemacke, maksimalna povlastica je 4k od drzave. Promenjena je i regulativa, tako da Tesla vise ne ispunjava uslove za subvencije. U pravilima je promenjeno da samo ukoliko je auto ispod 60k, podlozan je subvencijama. Onda je Tesla, izbacio svu mogucu standardnu opremu iz modela S, ne bi li se uklopili u to pravilo, ali im i dalje ne priznaju to.

Pitaj Ljubu koliko izadje da se kupi i registruje Tesla, a koliko Golf R, a ako se ne varam, ima 1 ili 2 zemlje sa jos vecim olaksicama.
Grujo, polako, nisu ih ovi iz Mercedesa odrzavali zivima godinama, a posle prodali udeo Tesle i zapoceli svoju pricu, bez ikakvog razloga

Ostali ne kasne, nego su cekali da to moze biti iole profitabilno.
Tesli nije cilj da bude konkurencija automobilskim kompanijama, vec da napravi bas ovo, hajp i prpu, pa da svi proizvodjaci narucuju od njih baterije i propratne sisteme, uz kupovinu tehnologija.

Ovako uzivo, dosta ih vidjam po Kelnu, i iz razgovora sa kolegama, svi imaju wau efekat za istu.

Inace u bivsoj firmi, u HQ u CH, CEO i neki direktori su pod Teslama.
Jedan je rekao da je benefit auto koji je dobio, tipa Q5 dao zeni da se vozi.

The e-Actros as part of the pilot will feature two versions with total weights of 18 tons and 26 tons, Daimler said. They’ll take three to 11 hours to charge. Broad demand will need time to take hold, Daimler said.
“Trucks have to run for 1.5 million miles and then there’s a used-truck buyer too after that,” said Daum. “We don’t know for sure how batteries for trucks will react after being in use for four to five years -- it’s very complex.”
